Steamed lentils/ Nuchchina unde

Steamed lentils are made by a few different lentils soaked and then baked by steaming them ,just like we make idlis.These aren't the ones which are commonly made everywhere ,these are denoted to Bangalore and Mysore area.I used to make these quite often after I learned it from my neighbors.These are served as snacks usually with a dip of Majjige huli ( kadi) or just with coconut chutney.

Toor daal (pigeon peas)- 3/4 cup
Moong daal ( green gram) - 1/4 cup
Chana daal ( split bengal gram) - 2 tbsps
coriander- 1/2 cup ( chopped)
Dil leaves- 1/2 cup (chopped)
Green chillies-6 to 7 ( finely chopped)
salt - 1 tbsp. ( add more if you like to)



  1. Soak the three dals for 2 hours and grind them coarsely with very little or no water at all.
  2. Add chopped green chillies,coriander leaves,Dil leaves and salt.
  3. Add onions if you prefer,i didn't add any.
  4. Take  a fistful of the mix and roll it into  small log shapes.
  5. Grease the Idli plates with little coooking oil and then place the lentil mix in them.
  6. Steam cook them for about 25 minutes.
  7. Serve them with Coconut chutney.
soaked Dals for about 2 hours.


Coarsely grind them .

Add chopped coriander leaves,Dil leaves and green chillies and salt.

Finally steam them in greased Idli plates for about 25 minutes.
