Ribbon Snacks/ Ribbon Murukku

Ribbon snacks are mostly done during Diwali festival.Had this at my friend's house and had been thinking of doing this from a long time. Finally got to do this for Diwali. These snacks are the ones which I used to buy a lot apart from murukku from the grocery stores.
These are also called as ribbon murukku or ribbon pakoda.I have used a plate inside the chakli press with six slits you can use plate with four slits.

Ingredients,
Rice flour- 1 1/2 cups
Chick pea flour / Besan - 1 cup
Salt- 1 teaspoon
Red chilli powder- 2 teaspoons ( you can reduce it to 1 teaspoon if you like it to be less spicy)
Sesame seeds- 1 tablespoon
Asafeotida- 1/4 teaspoon
Butter- 2 tablespoons
Water- enought to knead into dough
Oil- For deep frying.

  1. In a a bowl mix rice flour ,besan, salt, red chilli powder, asafoetida and sesame seeds.
  2. Heat butter in a pan ,when it gets hot add it to the flour mix.
  3. Add water( room temperature) to it and knead it into dough to the consistency of the chapathi or roti dough.
  4. Grease the chakli press and the long slitted plate.Place the plate inside the chakli press.
  5. Take a handful of the dough and place it inside the chakli press.
  6. Put the lid with the handle on top of the dough and press it to get the ribbon shapes and deep fry them in oil on medium flame.
  7. You can just press this directly in hot oil if you comfortable only. After all safety is important so be careful.
