Spicy Dal


I didn't had much of the vegetables to do any curry,except for some dal.I had to do something to go with my pulkas.This is the best option I could come up with.I used Toor dal ( pigeon peas) with 2 tablespoons of Chana dal  for the spicy dal
Freshly roasted and ground spices give it a nice flavor. Try this even with Basmati rice.

Ingredients,
Toor dal- 1/2 cup
Chana dal- 2 tbsps
Coriander seeds - 1/2 tbsp
Fennel seeds - 1/2 tbsp
Black pepper - 1/2 tbsp
Red chilli - 1
Fenugreek seeds-  1/2 tbsp
Garlic- 2 pods ( chopped)
Coconut milk- 1 cup
Salt - 1 tbsp( vary according to taste)
cooking oil- 1 tbsp
Ghee - 1 tbsp


  1. Roast coriander seeds,fennel seeds,black pepper and dry red chilli in a pan and grind it into a fine powder.
  2. Sauté  garlic in a tbsp of ghee and a tbsp of oil .
  3. Add coconut milk and the ground spices.
  4. Finally add salt and garnish with coriander leaves.


Roast coriander seeds,cumin seeds,black pepper,fenugreek seeds and red chilli.

Saute gralic and green chilli in 1 tbsp of ghee and 1 tbsp of oil.

Add 1 cup of coconut milk

Add cooked dal.


Add roasted and ground spice powder and salt.

cook for 5 minutes.
