Mint Peas Pulav

This is the one that I used to pester my mom to prepare during the weekends.I would just hog on to this rice.This has got spices and mint which will not only gives a nice aroma but has also good benefits of mint.
I have used dry peas and soaked them and then cooked along with the  rice and spices.If you please you can add on veggies of your choice to customize to your taste.


Ingredients,
For the masala to be grinded-

Mint/ pudina leaves-  1/2 cup
Fresh coconut - 1/2 cup ( grated)
Cinnamon- 1 inch stick
Green cardamom- 4-5 ( only seeds)
Cloves- 5-6
Green chillies- 3
Water- 1/2 cup

Rice- 1 1/2 cups ( I have used sona masoori rice,you can also use basmathi rice)
Peas- 1 cup dry. ( soak them in water overnight or for 8 hours)
Bay leaf- 1
Green chilli- 1
Salt - 1 1/4 tablespoon.
Water -2 cups
Oil- 1/2 cup


  1. Separate the leaves from the sprigs of mint. Wash them and measure for upto 1/2 cup.
  2. Take 1/2 cup of grated coconut and mix it with mint leaves.
  3. Roast in a drop of oil cinnamon,cardamom and cloves.Add it to the mint leaves and coconut.
  4. Add chopped green chillies to the above ingredients and grind everything into a paste with 1/2 cup of water.


  1. Keep a pressure cooker on medium flame and add oil to it.
  2. Add the soaked  green peas with a few pinches of salt.saute a little. Only for a minute.
  3. Add slit green chilli.
  4. Add ground mix.Stir well.
  5. Rinse the rice in a bowl with water and add it to the sautéd green peas.Add bay leaf.
  6. Add 2 cups of water and salt and mix well.
  7. Place the lid of the cooker and wait until you get the steam.
  8. Put on the whistle when see the steam.Let it cook for 1 whistle and then switch it off.
  9. Let it cool down .Remove the lid and transfer it to bowl to serve.


Roast the spices on a griddle with a drop of oil.

Add the roast spices to mint leaves,green chillies
 and grated fresh coconut.

Grind all the above ingredients to a fine paste with 1/2 cup 
of water.


Rinse the rice with water.

Pour 1/2 cup oil in a pressure cooker.

Add green peas and saute with a pinch of salt.


Add slit green chilli.

Add ground paste.

Add rinsed rice with 2 cups of water and bay leaf.
Add salt and stir well.

Place the lid now and cook for 1 whistle.
